Finance and Budgeting Workshops: With the support of apartment complexes, SBTA offers rent reductions to tenants who attend a financing and budgeting workshop hosted by First Source Bank.
Lead Exposure: Working with the city, SBTA provides information to tenants who have their children or their house test positive for lead exposure with information on how to engage with their landlord.
Know Your Rights: SBTA promotes tenant’s education of their rights and plans to engage in mass public campaigns to increase awareness of tenant protections.
Tenant Union Meetings: Every month, SBTA hosts an all-tenant meeting to empower tenants and hear their concerns.
Private Representation: For problems at the complex-level, SBTA will organize the tenants and be the mediator between the tenants and management. For individual issues, SBTA runs an online intake form and provides guidance to tenants facing issues with their landlord.
Public Policy: SBTA works with the city in effectively engaging with tenants and crafting housing policy; SBTA also inserts its voice on critical legislative issues that will impact tenants.
Eviction Defense Program: Partnered with the Economic Justice Clinic and Volunteer Lawyers Network, SBTA will launch the Eviction Defense Program by running a software to schedule pro bono lawyers to attend eviction court, effectively creating a private right to counsel.
Utility and Rent Assistance Outreach: By engaging with local nonprofits, SBTA aggregates utility and rent assistance options for tenants at risk of eviction and helps nonprofits boost awareness of these resources.
Food and Voter Registration Drives: In response to coronavirus, SBTA led a food drive that assisted over 200 households with food and essential supplies while also aiding them in registering to vote.
